I had so much fun! When compared to various dating sites, this approach is so much more authentic. You get to connect with a live person and feel their energy in that moment. Even if I didn’t have an interest in dating someone, I appreciated the option to develop a friendship. I’ve done two so far and plan to return.
Finally, I took the plunge and went to my first ever speed dating event. (Really! My first.) And I’m glad I chose one facilitated by Frankie Bashan founder of littlegaybook. She knows what’s she’s doing! Painless, and, actually, way more fun than I expected. I found something enjoyable in each of the thirteen 5-minute conversation blips, even though I didn’t have romantic vision for most of the women I met. (I do have my eye on one or two, and I’ll know within 24 hours if we are aligned. And, personally, I’m only looking for one.) The phone app that structured the potential chaos was impressive and functioned well. My only complaint is, and I can’t really complain, because I was forewarned, that speed dating is very, very… speedy!

This speed dating was incredibly well executed, even for someone who isn’t very tech savvy. It was the first time I’ve done anything like this, and it was so much fun! In June 2022, at a Little Gay Book speed dating event, my life quietly shifted in the most extraordinary way. I had registered for the event on a whim. I was shy and hesitant. It was my very first speed dating experience, and I had just relocated from out of state without an established circle in my new city. Making friends as a middle-aged adult is hard, and my only goal that night was to meet like-minded people who might become friends.
But then I met her, Asha, the woman who would become my partner, my confidante, and my greatest love.
Today, we are blissfully happy, sharing a blended family, adventures, laughter, and a deep, steady love that feels like home. Asha is my human, my best friend, my lover, my rock-the yin to my yang. She is the person who sees me, supports me, and matches me in all the right ways. Our love story feels nothing short of magical, and it began because LGB brought us together.
